Code of Ethics

DEC: Code of Ethics
Professional Practice: Professional and Interpersonal Behavior

"3. We shall strive for the highest level of personal and professional competence by seeking and
using new evidence based information to improve our practices while also responding openly to
the suggestions of others."

I believe that in order to be the best person in your job you should always be learning and exploring the field to better yourself. With all of the knowledge out there it would be a shame not to always be learning something from it and changing your system to stay with the times and better serve the families and children at your center.

NAEYC: Code of Ethics
Ethical Responsibilities to Children: Ideals
"I-1.5- To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and contributions."

I am a stronger believer in stations that adhere to different learning styles. Since not all children learn in the same fashion it is very important to give them the opportunity to learn and explore topics in the fashion that they choose. It is also important to let them explore their surroundings and communicate with their class mates in a free setting so that they can create bonds.

Ethical Responsibilities to Families: Ideals
"I-2.2- To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve."

I feel that it is crucial to have a good relationship with the families in order to have a good relationship with the child. If there is tension, the child will pick up on it and will display bias towards a particular party. In order to benefit the child it is highly important to have a functioning relationship with the parents. I try to personally lay everything on the table in order to make sure their is no confusion by anyone and to let them know that I have an open door policy.

  1. Stephanie, I especially like that you chose to discuss the importance of continuing to learn and use new evidence to better our teaching. Before I took this class, I thought that I was up-to-date with the field of early childhood. My mind has been opened to so many new venues to research and learn information... in addition to ways to keep posted on studies taking place in the early childhood field. I believe we have an obligation to keep current, in addition to doing a bit of our own research; we owe this to our children.
It's very easy to get into a "safe" routine, using the same activities year after year. But, since our students change every year, we are assured a new group of children very different from the one's before. We need to be open to learning new ideas that will help our students grow. I guess it also helps our growth. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hi Stephanie, I like the one that talk about the environment for children. Sometimes I would be running out of ideas of how to display children's work and the bulletin boards to show what we are doing at school. I try to change the arrangement of classroom twice a year to make children feel something new and fresh when they come back from holidays. However, no displays should be too high in the class, as I want children to find the clue to help their study. I try to make sure the environment is safe and healthy, but also I am making the atmosphere is the class can be warm and happy. It is easy to say, but hard to do sometime.
    Thank you for your sharing:)

  3. Hi Stephanie, I would like to say thank you to you for your support at my blog and your smart ideas you shared in your blog too.
I like your blog as I like how neat and sweet your blog is. We are sharing the same experience in our life and study too. I am learning my master degree as while working full time as well. I know how hard it can be. I have seen you doing the course work always ahead of the time which impresses me and encourages me to do the same as you do. I do not want to give up my study using work as an excuse. Reading and commenting on your blog postings make me feel how good you are at your time management which I need to improve at. I liked your own childhood web, and I am happy to see that you like Dr. Seuss. I hope we can help each other in the upcoming course as we do for this one. Thank you for your wonderful thoughts and postings!

  4. I also believed that professional growth is essential for early childhood professionals. It is everyone’s responsibility to stay informed of new research and techniques in the field. We need more teachers committed to continuing their Education in the field also; we need professionals with experience but, with the knowledge that only gives the education.

  5. Hi Stephanie!!! You and I both have an interest in the statement regarding devloping relationships of mutual trust with our families. Parents depends on us to not only give their children a quality education but to care for them while they are out of their care. They trust us every day with that responsiblity. This is why it is always important to keep an open line of communication with each parent. Parents are my partners. When it comes to their children's learning journey, we are in this together!!
